Indicative student contribution amount

The indicative student contribution amount reported on element 495 (Indicative student contribution amount for a Commonwealth Supported place) is the approximate cost of a course for a first year student studying fulltime for one year (i.e. 1 equivalent full-time student load or 1 EFTSL).

This amount is reported on the Campus (CM) file.

The projected average cost of a Commonwealth supported place is derived based on the student contribution amount for a full time student load (1 EFTSL) for a first year student.

When reporting the indicative student contribution amount on element 495 for the course that is:

  • 1 EFTSL or more - report the average annual student contribution amount; or
  • less than 1 EFTSL - report the actual student contribution amount calculated as a percentage of 1 EFTSL

For example:

  • Bachelor of Science
    • Total student contribution set by provider for a place is $25,500
    • Standard course duration = 3 years of equivalent full time study (i.e. 3 EFTSL)
    • Approximate student contribution in the first year (1 EFTSL) is $8,500
    • This is reported on element 495 as 08500
  • Graduate Diploma in teaching
    • Total student contribution set by provider for a place is $10,000
    • Standard course duration = 1 year of equivalent full time study (i.e. 1 EFTSL)
    • Approximate student contribution in the first year (1 EFTSL) is $10,000
    • This is reported on element 495 as 10000
  • Graduate Certificate in teaching
    • Total student contribution set by provider for a place is $10,000
    • Standard course duration = 0.5 year of equivalent full time study (i.e. 0.5 EFTSL)
    • Approximate student contribution in the first year (0.5 EFTSL) is $5,000
    • This is reported on element 495 as 05000
