Course of Study Load for Higher Education providers

Course of Study Load is the aggregated EFTSL value for a course of study, summed across all the units of study a student must complete to meet the academic requirements for the course of study.

The Equivalent Full‑time Student Load (E339) value for a course of study is expressed in tenths. The following table provides some examples of reporting the load (i.e. total EFTSL) for a course of study on Element 350.

Course of study length Load reported for the course of study on Element 350
a course of study where the total load for a standard study program is equal to one academic year of full time study [l EFTSL] 10
a course of study where the total load for a standard study program is equal to two academic years of full time study [2 EFTSL] 20
a course of study where the total load for a standard study program is equal to four and a half academic years of full time study [4.5 EFTSL] 45
a course of study where the total load for a standard study program for a full time student is equal to half an academic year of full time study [0.5 EFTSL] 05

Load remains consistent throughout the life of the course of study.

Information on calculating the EFTSL value for a unit of study can be found in section 12.2 of the Administrative Information for Providers (AIP): Student Support.
